TunnelSkills have introduced their Safety Passport scheme to ensure that all personnel going underground have an appreciation of the specialist risks that they will be subjected to.

Purpose of the scheme
The TunnelSkills Safety Passport is intended for all personnel going underground in the construction phase and ensures that workers have a basic understanding of health and safety awareness in the tunnelling environment. The scheme is designed to promote good practice and help reduce accidents; in the future, only workers with safety passports will be permitted to access work sites.

The courses will be run by professional trainers, who are accredited by TunnelSkills; each trainer selected will be accustomed to working with a variety of abilities to ensure that all skill levels are catered for. On completion of the course, an individual will be awarded the Passport qualification, which will then be valid for a period of two years.
