Tunnelling Operative Apprenticeship

The primary role of a tunnelling operative is to assist with the excavation, support and forming of tunnels and shafts associated with the construction process to provide an underground space, tunnel or shaft; typical tunnelling methods include hand tunnelling, machine tunnelling, pipejacking, sprayed concrete lining, shaft sinking and drill and blast.

The duration of the Level Two Tunnelling Operative Apprenticeship will typically be 12 to 18 months. The training element of the apprenticeship will be delivered through a block release programme at TUCA, Ilford. It is planned that the first cohort of 16 apprentices will start at TUCA on 10th September
